Spirit-empowered Preaching – No #StrangeFire

My favorite college professor posted on his facebook feed: In light of the recent and sorely needed critical evaluation of charismania, I believe that there is now a desperate need for a positive study and presentation of the Spirit’s role in a Christian’s life and in a preacher’s preaching. All believers are commanded to be filled and controlled by the Holy Spirit, and Paul spoke about the demonstration of the Spirit and power in his preaching. What does that look like? While it is unfair to describe us as confessing belief in the Father, the Son, and the Bible, we urgently need to evidence spiritual power in our walk and in our teaching/preaching. Let us not be afraid of that because of charismatic abuses!!!

I’m glad to say that there are good resources on this by Art Azurdia, pastor of Trinity Church in Portland Oregon. You can read it or hear him teach on it by downloading 4 mp3 messages.

He wrote the book, Spirit-Empowered Preaching that I highly recommend.

You can hear his preaching from his church’s website or spiritempoweredpreaching.com. On that website you’ll see this series of mp3s that is relevant to this topic. “Preaching Christ in the Power of the Spirit” Part 1,  Part 2,  Part 3,  Part 4 taught at the IFCA Pacific Northwest Regional Conference in Port Angeles, Washington.
