A Good Example of Playing Sports Hard with Jesus as King

Sort of related to my post on Friday regarding sports and idolatry, here’s a good example of Jesus as King as you play basketball at the highest level and what matters most in life. How do you play hard without worshiping the game or winning? Robinson says, “You compete… It’s not like you play aggressively with any malice. You just play aggressively. The Lord gave me this big strong body and I like to use it.”

Though he doesn’t explain the gospel or Christ’s cross, and even though he may be misunderstood for saying that giving your life to Jesus means he’ll bless you beyond your wildest dreams, David Robinson’s main exhortation to give your life to Jesus is true. Just make sure it’s the Jesus of the Bible.

If you want a good picture of the way Christ as central makes you value life differently than being without him, compare David Robinson’s Hall of Fame Speech to Michael Jordan’s.

If you want to hear the gospel afresh or want to know who Jesus is and what it means to give your life to him, watch this video below or go to this blog post with a gospel explanation and many short gospel videos.
