Registration not yet open.

What can you do now until registration opens?  One of two things.

  1. Join The Gospel Coalition Network hub.  If you’re already on the city network hub, join the Los Angeles County (Southern California) group.  If you are having trouble joining that group, leave a comment on this blog post and I’ll try to get you in the group by sending a direct invite.  This group is the best way to get/stay connected to all others in the group.
  2. OR – Leave a comment here on this post that you want to be updated when registration opens and I’ll email you as soon as we get registration up online.

This question and answer was posted by Justin Buzzard regarding the Bay Area, but it equally applies to us in LA:

Question: Here in the [Greater Los Angeles] Area we have a lot of work to do. This is a highly unchurched metropolitan area with great hostility to the gospel. What are a couple brief points of counsel you’d give to church leaders wanting to build (or re-build) a gospel ministry in a region like this?

D.A. Carson’s answer: Trust Christ; believe the power of the gospel; abandon short-term gimmicks; think big but start small and be faithful; meet with, work with, pray with, learn from, those who have a common set of commitments and vision.

On the TGC website there’s a description of what regional chapters may be:

The Gospel Coalition regional chapters are an opportunity to leverage our social networking platform for gospel-centered ministry at the local level… The ultimate goal with our regional chapters is to move beyond an online community to physical communities that meet together for encouragement, accountability, prayer, and idea sharing for the better advance of the gospel.

We can only guess what this looks like for us in LA at the end of the day.  My idea is that we’ll at least have a regional conference yearly to encourage and build each other up.  The purpose of this TGC-LA group would be to pray, encourage, and establish relationships with leaders and churches with a robust gospel-centered confessional faith and theological ministry vision.  We can do this through online interaction on the city; bi-annual gatherings for a meal, devotion, and extended time of prayer; and a yearly conference or one day seminar with a speaker from The Gospel Coalition Council or from our own group.  And of course, there would be the informal friendships, emails, phone calls, and get-togethers for gospel encouragement initiated by whomever.  Through this we can help other churches and pastors not centered on Christ and Scripture intentionally pursue a functional gospel-centricity as we meet other brothers and sisters in our LA mission field.

  1. PJ, if we are in Orange County, would we also be considered a part of the GC Los Angeles County group?

    • pjtibayan says:

The TGC LA regional chapter will be for the greater LA area I hope, meaning for LA County, the OC, San Bernadino, Riverside, and Ventura counties. Unless those different counties felt the need to start a separate regional chapter which would be fine. But the group on the network (the city) separates the two groups OC and LAC. I’ll update the OC group and the LAC group since I’m in both groups, but as a general invitation I’m asking those in neither group to sign up to the LAC group since that is where I live, where the conference is, and where most of the guys I’m connected to are at the moment.

  2. Really looking forward to it PJ – lmk when registration is open.
