Links of Interest

These are links in particular categories that I find interesting and may be helpful to you:

Evangelism/Mission: Tim Chester has three posts on how to get to know your neighborhood which will help you love your neighbors (with the gospel) as you love yourself – (part 1, part 2, and part 3).

The Church: This article by Bill Kynes will help you love the local church as a member or pastor with a firm and glorious biblical vision of what it is.  Bill concludes, “As we look at the very ordinary local churches we serve, may we see the church as Paul saw it: the family of God, the gathered people of the living God, the pillar and protector of the truth, manifesting to the powers of the invisible realm the manifold wisdom of the mysterious purposes of God for his own glory.”

Audio resource: Listen to Tim Keller interviewed by Marvin Olasky.  Keller answers questions about his own story—on depression, introversion, conversion, overworking, cancer, marriage, and more.  You can also read a highly abbreviated transcript in World Magazine.  (HT: JT)

Fatherhood: Here’s a great post on how to lead your family spiritually as a father posted at The Resurgence.  This had an immediate impact on me as a husband and father.  He writes, “Many people ask me, ‘What do “family devotions” look like at your house?’ or, ‘How do you pastor your family?’ or even more simply, ‘Do you pray or read the Bible with your wife and children?’ Here is one attempt to answer those questions.”

Planning to benefit the most on Sundays: Here are some good tips on maximizing your time of gathering with your local church on Sundays.  “When you fail to plan ahead,” he warns, “Sunday morning ends up becoming a chaotic crisis, and by the time you get to church, you are frustrated and frazzled and your heart is in no condition to receive the Word. But when you plan well and are able to arrive in a relaxed, leisurely way, you will be in a much more receptive frame of mind.”
