1. He seems to have not thought through the differences between the local church and the universal church. He has a good definition in many respects of what a church is. The Baptist in me wants to say that this group has covenanted together and they are all aware that they are committed to each other as a church.
2. Reflecting on Driscoll’s talk makes me think that I have an unbiblical assumption that the church must have the opportunity in every main gathering to meet every other member of the church. That may not be the case if the church is too large, even in a single service. Connecting through the membership directory or internet seems like good tools to increase the congregation’s knowledge of each other.
Thanks for doing this. I was pretty disappointed with his ‘defense.’ I anticipate the rest of your thoughts.
